Au Pair Duties and Responsibilities
Au Pairs are young persons who come to Switzerland to gain experience and learn about culture & language. An Au Pair is part of a family, where the Au Pair lives within a family community. The Au Pairs are helping with child care duties and house hold duties. It is not just a job, it is to integrate into a family.
Love for children and willing to help in the household it necessary. Great personality and open to adapt into a new environment is very important. The Au Pair is part of the family, like the elder sister. Free time is also sometimes spending with the host families to go on trips etc.
We have families in the German and French part of Switzerland. All families we have speak a good English. The language course for the Au Pair is based on where the family lives.
Duration of Stay
Most families require a minimum stay of 12 month. The legal maximum stay for Au Pairs with EU passport is 2 years.
Conditions
The families provide the Au Pair with an own room and food. They make sure the Au Pair is insured against accidents and illness while in Switzerland. They pay for 120 lessons of language course for 12 month of stay. Also, the travel expenses to Switzerland for the start of work are paid by the host families. The host families also make sure all taxes, social deductions, etc. are paid.
Au Pairs receive a net salary of 700 CHF per month paid out, no more deductions. The Au Pair works 30 hours per week.
Agency Responsibility and Contact
Our partner for the families and Au Pairs, can be contacted always during time of employment in Switzerland. They also have a 24 hours’ helpline in emergency cases. They are there to support both parties and help when there are problems. Change of family can also happen and have been done before. Also in emergency cases, some Au Pairs have been living with them for some time.
Potential au pair candidates should have the following skills:
- Between 18 and 30 years old (candidates with EU passport), between 18 and 25 years old (candidates without EU passport)
- Good knowledge of German or English to ensure communication with the host family
- Enjoyment of children and childcare
- Willingness to do even light housework
- The candidate should be interested in the languages German or French and should also want to get to know the Swiss culture
- Willingness to integrate into and support a family
- Advantage: Openness, friendliness, reliability, sense of responsibility, willingness to learn and the curiosity to get to know new things
- Learn and the curiosity to get to know new things
- The ability to cook simple and healthy food
- Ability to swim
- A cultivated appearance
- Completed training is an advantage
- Driving licence of the Kat. B advantage
